Fall Internship At The Bed-Stuy Farm Share
Bed-Stuy Farm Share runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project. It is a mutually beneficial partnership between local farms and our community. The farms bring fresh, seasonal, affordable produce to Bed-Stuy and we provide a stable, financial base for the farm. Bed-Stuy Farm Share prioritizes purchasing produce from local farmers of color.
Bed-Stuy Farm Share is working to change the urban-rural relationship and put consumers and growers in control of their health and their economic relationship. In a neighborhood where heart disease is the leading cause of death and 1 in 3 adults is obese, we work with neighborhood groups and agencies to reverse these epidemics. We promote preventive health care and educate residents about how and why to incorporate fresh, local produce in their diets.
Fall 2010 interns will get the opportunity to learn about CSA models and structure by helping to manage the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) distribution to members through the end of the harvest (mid-November). Interns will also help with event planning and outreach about a new community health guide recently completed by the organization. Interns will conduct a members survey project and work with the Core Organizers to facilitate planning for 2011 with members and allied organizations in the community.
