I watched the video. It was great. But this video is about Fort Greene/Clinton Hill not Bed Stuy. Additionally, gentrification in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill has been happening for over 20 years. It’s Bed Stuy that’s in the midst of it right now. I would love to see her do a video of Bed Stuy and its impact on this neighborhood.
Does it matter? I can tell you, as 3rd generation Bed-Stuy resident, the sentiments expressed in this video will be mirrored by anyone you speak to in Bed-Stuy about their experience. And it’s only very recently that anyone regarded the area as Clinton Hill as such. There is a lot of overlap in this video.
Does it matter? Yes and No. The film was great and very interesting and I definitely enjoyed it. I too am a resident of Bed-Stuy (2nd generation and raising 3rd generation children) and watched the video looking for my neighborhood but I saw Clinton Hill. It’s important to me that we name the neighborhoods correctly because we are actually already losing some of Bed Stuy to redistricting. Parts of Bed Stuy near Myrtle Avenue are now included as Williamsburg. So in that sense, yep. It does matter. You are also right, the story would be and is the same in part of Bed Stuy – some more pronounced than others: Stuyvesant Heights for example. The difference is that we are experiencing it right now whereas Clinton Hill has for the most part gone through their gentrification already (not at all saying it isn’t still going on). The film maker would have had an opp to speak to people who were experiencing it raw for lack of a better term. Perhaps they will do a part two and really take a look at Bed Stuy. I would definitely watch that as well.
WOW
Who produced this?
This is great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Melissa.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Annuri. I will keep my eyes open for a part two.
